Post interview blog post. Wikiseat. April 10, 2013

After I interviewed the person I am making my seat for, I learned various things. The person i chose to interview was my mother. She informed me of what she wanted and what she would like the seat to look like.

I asked her questions to figure out what exactly it was that she wanted it to look like.
-What colour?
-Height?
-Structure?
-Seat style?
-Design of seat?
-Materials?
I dont want to give away what my seat will look like until i put a picture of it on my final Wikiseat post.
The only real challenge i think i will face will be incorporating the catalyst into the actual seat itself. Other than that i think that the seat constuction is really straightforward.

Skype interview with Weerol inventor Derek Perkins.

Today March 27 2013, my class will be talking to the Weerol inventor Derek Perkins. He told us about how he came up with the Weerol concept and design. He told us all the steps he had to take to get the product he desired. he also let us know about the struggles he had with coming up with the final idea.
He made many prototypes to get to the final one. Above you see the many variations of the Weerol.
He had to consider cost, safety, manufacturability, practicality and is it fun.
When he was brainstorming he had to sketch, prototype and test. When he found an idea he would then have to source suppliers, get quotes, purchase tools, order samples and test the samples then modify/repeat. Kickstarter helped derek get feedback, exposure, concept validation pre order sales.

Weerol accessories

I have a few ideas for a new accessory for the Weerol. I think a type of padding for the sides of it. Just a  rubber attachment for the edges where the kid will be in contact with it. Check out the site on www.kickstarter.com

Another idea is to have different attachment ideas. Exmple: saddle ( kid pretends its a horse) , plane wings (pretends its an airplane0 and you could make a way for it to be a boat for the pool.

wikiseat investigations 1

The wikiseat project is where you take a catalyst and make a seat/stool. The wikiseat was founded by Nicolas Weidinger. The goal of the wikiseat is to solve a problem someone has by making them a stool.        This seat is supposed to help students and adults how to design and produce functional seats and stools.
Mr Wheeler's class used the wikiseat in English class to solve problems associated with building chairs.
this helped his students learn how to solve problems. other students who have done the wikiseat project and have posted their thoughts said the project was a good experience overall.

the wikiseat project.

this is a chunk of steel. it is called catalyst. first reaction is that this is the most pointless project i have ever seen.  i am making the wikiseat for my dads garage. i don't know how it is going to turn out.

The sketch is in the above picture.

Wallet challenge reflection. March 21, 2013

This is my prototype wallet. It is a rough prototype that took 15 minutes. It is supposed to be a wallet that wraps around the inside of your hat. the design process didn't take very long. I knew what I had to do to make an innovative wallet design. The idea came to me when my classmate said he wanted a wallet that took up less space. I also noticed that my classmate always wears his hat. That is how I came up with the idea for the hat wallet. This design for the wallet is much different than my original. i understood how he would want to have a wallet that was out of the way. the physical prototype didn't help my design. the design helped my prototype. my partner said that it was an innovative idea. if i could improve it i would make it even, more card slots and padding on the perimeter.

the gift giving experience. March 18 2013.

Our project was to design an innovative idea or invention. We needed to come up a way to solve problems that our classmates had when it came to giving gifts. my partner Brayden had an issue with buying firearms as gifts because he is 16. I suggested investigating to see if their was a youth licence of some sort. I understood his problems because I too like firearms but I am 15. i got confused on how to solve this problem because i know a PAL is only given to people 18 and older. The prototype was easy to do because i had figured out what he needed and what it should look like.Above are the materials we were given to make our prototype.

Tim Horton's experience. march 13 2013

My experience with redesigning the Tim Horton's logo was an easy task. It was easy because almost everything here in Canada is related to Tim Horton's. Hockey has the sponsorship by Tim Horton's. you cant walk anywhere in Canada without seeing something to do with Tim Horton's.

personal logo original copy

My personal logo using Adobe Illustrator. this is the original copy of my personal logo. I chose grey, red and black because they were sharp and had a classic look that you could get at say a gas station in the 50's and 60's.

Stick Man

my personal logo

This is my personal logo describing some of views on the paper, but it also shows the old fashioned style I am aiming for with my projects. this was chosen as the best of some of the ones I have sketched.

This is a mind map of the ideas i was going to base my logo on.

learning about logos and brands #19(Tim Hortons)

the first logo I designed was based on the "bread and butter" of Tim Horton's, the coffee and donuts.
The second is the name "Tim Horton's"inside timbits beside a cup of coffee.
the third is a mind map of different ideas. I have a rink(sponsorship with NHL by Timmy's) and many different layouts of menu items available at Tim Horton's.
